Your Guide to Choosing Original Art

Find answers to common questions about selecting, displaying, and caring for original artwork.

How do I choose the right size artwork?

The size of your artwork should complement your wall and furniture. As a general guideline, artwork above a sofa, bed, or fireplace looks best when it’s about two-thirds the width of the furniture below it. Larger pieces create a bold focal point, while smaller paintings work beautifully in gallery walls or cozy spaces.

A good rule of thumb is to hang the center of your artwork about 57–60 inches from the floor. When hanging art above furniture, leave approximately 6–8 inches between the bottom of the frame and the top of the furniture for a balanced look.

Not necessarily. The best interiors often use artwork to introduce color, personality, and contrast. Choose pieces that complement your room’s overall style and color palette rather than trying to match everything perfectly.

Original artwork brings texture, depth, and individuality that reproductions can’t fully capture. Every brushstroke is unique, making each painting one of a kind and a lasting addition to your home.

Landscape artwork works beautifully in living rooms, bedrooms, offices, entryways, and dining rooms. Nature-inspired scenes often create a calming atmosphere and can help make a space feel more open and inviting.

Keep your artwork out of direct sunlight and away from excessive humidity. Dust the frame gently with a soft cloth, and avoid using household cleaners on the painted surface. With proper care, an original painting can be enjoyed for generations.

Many people find that nature-inspired artwork creates a sense of calm and connection to the outdoors. Peaceful landscapes, forests, coastlines, and changing skies can add warmth and character while contributing to a relaxing environment.

The best artwork is the piece that makes you pause and feel something. Whether it reminds you of a favorite place, a meaningful memory, or simply brings a sense of peace, choosing art you genuinely connect with is more important than following decorating trends.
